Babies and Bathwater

I was recently in Hong Kong for the excellent 21st Century Learning conference, where I had the very great pleasure of running some hands-on workshops in Google stuff, and also giving the closing keynote. As I mention at  the start of this talk, it was quite intimidating to think that I could say anything worth hearing after an amazing couple of days of learning from so many other amazing educators. (Having people like Stephen Heppell and Gary Stager in the audience didn’t make it any less intimidating either)

I actually didn’t even realise these talks were being recorded so when I spotted this on Twitter today it came as a bit of a surprise. For what it’s worth, here is a video of my talk, called Babies and Bathwater.

I go to quite a few conferences, and I’m always a little surprised at how few of them bother to video the presentations. Given the amount of time and energy that conference organisers put into running these events, you’d think they would be better at capturing things for later reuse. Good on you Paul, Justin and Graeme for making sure that you do it right at 21clHK.

  1. It is so valuable Chris as it allows anyone access to the valuable information passed on at these conferences. Thank you for posting this. I always value your insights into education and thinking…you dare to think outside the box and are always so generous with your resources and time. Great to see you on the speaker circuit so often these days. Go for it mate.

    1. Thanks Abi! Much appreciated. “Speaker circuit” makes it sound a tad more grandiose that it probably is… I’m just a teacher who occasionally gets to share with colleagues. But yeah, it’s certainly nice that opportunities such as this to do so come along every so often. Being able to travel to interesting parts of the world and getting to share with others like this is definitely something that I never imagined when I started teaching. Just between you and I, it’s a lot of fun! 🙂

  2. I agree with Abi! I came across this late at night in my wanderings on LinkedIn and never thought I’d watch it all, but your stories and examples are so engaging and you are so clever in linking ideas with authentic situations.I loved your story about the ceramic arts teacher! I really enjoyed watching this keynote address!

PS Huge congrats to your daughter being accepted into WAPA!
